I thoroughly enjoyed reading Jurassic Park, especially seeing how much it differed from the movie. The book is much darker and dives deeper into the science and horror of the island. However, a few character arcs left me wishing for a bit more:Lex's Maturity: I wished Lex had shown a bit more maturity during the crisis, though it makes sense given that she is only about eight years old in the book.Hammond's Karma: I really wanted John Hammond to have a moment of true karma—a breakthrough where he finally understood Ian Malcolm's warnings about chaos theory instead of remaining stubborn to the end.The fast-paced ending wrapped up the immediate danger, but it left me incredibly curious about the long-term fate of the survivors and what ultimately happened to the adult T-Rex. Overall, it is a fantastic, gripping read that offers a completely fresh perspective for fans of the film.

Absolute beast of a book! Michael Crichton gives us a literary gift with this one. It is a page turner and the characters are both likable and easily despised. There are few differences from the movie, but I believe it makes the book better. The progression is smooth and the imagination goes wild. A very easy read and my first MC book... I'm hooked. I have ordered most all of MC's books and I'll be leaving more reviews on those later. Don't sleep on this book, it rewards the reader. Love the ambiguous ending as well... The Lost World! "Let's be clear. The planet is not in jeopardy. We are in jeopardy. We haven't got the power to destroy the planet - or to save it. But we might have the power to save ourselves." -Malcolm.

I don't know why, sometimes, I have to learn the same lesson over and over - but, here I am again, noting that it never ceases to amaze me how movies completely ruin storylines (and, in general, I like the Jurassic Park movie series). However, this is another example of a book with an engaging storyline, interesting characters (although one of them is nothing short of annoying - I'll let you decide which one), and a worthwhile read. This is one of the books we read (and re-read at our kid's request) with our kids. And, for any fans of the movie, you'll quickly note how this story (and it's ending) completely negates a key storyline of the Jurassic Park movie series. Either way, I think this book is worth a read.
